The Line-Up: What an Edge-Up Does for Your Haircut
What a line-up (edge-up) is, what to ask for, why you shouldn't push the hairline back, and how a $20 line-up fits between cuts.

The line-up, also called an edge-up or shape-up, is the clean outline of a haircut. It covers the forehead hairline, the temples, the sideburns, and the neckline. A sharp outline makes the whole cut look cleaner.
The parts of a line-up
- Front hairline: the line across the forehead. It should sit level.
- Temple corners: where the front line turns down toward the temples.
- Curved edges at the temples: the arches between the temples and sideburns, sometimes called C-cups.
- Beard connection: where the sideburns meet the beard. The cheek lines should be even on both sides.
- Neckline: tapered, blocked, or rounded, with no stray stubble.
Don’t push the hairline back
Some barbers cut the line deeper into the natural hairline to make it straight. It looks stark on day one. A few days later, stubble grows in front of the new line, and it takes weeks to grow back.
We follow your natural hairline and clean it up. We don’t move it.
Trimmer first, then the razor
A trimmer lays out the shape, and a razor finishes it. The razor takes off the fine stubble a trimmer leaves behind, so the line is sharper and stays that way longer.
Between haircuts
Hair at the edges grows about half an inch a month, so after 10 to 14 days the outline starts to blur while the top still looks fine. A Line Up is $20 and takes 10 to 15 minutes. It’s a quick fix before a weekend, an interview, or photos.
