How to Keep Your Fade Looking Fresh Between Cuts
Simple ways to stretch a fade or taper: neck cleanup, the right product, and how often to come in.

Hair grows about half an inch a month, so by week two or three a fade starts to lose its contrast. These habits help it last.
1. Clean the neck carefully
Overgrown neck hair makes a cut look messy fast. Use a trimmer or foil shaver on stray hairs below the hairline. Don’t push the hairline up into the fade. If you’re not sure, leave it for your barber.
2. Use the right product
- Clay or paste: low shine with some hold. It gives overgrown hair texture.
- Sea salt spray: adds volume and grit without weighing down the roots.
- Pomade: best for side parts and slick styles.
3. Look after your scalp
A fade shows your scalp, so flakes and irritation show too. Use a moisturizing shampoo and lukewarm water. If you have a high fade, wear sunscreen outdoors.
4. Come in on a schedule
- Skin fades and tight tapers: every 2 weeks
- Scissor cuts and mid tapers: every 3 to 4 weeks
- Beard line-ups: every 1 to 2 weeks
Between full cuts, a $20 Line Up keeps the edges sharp. Call (480) 825-0878 or walk in.
