Your Child's First Barbershop Haircut
How to prepare a toddler or young boy for a first haircut, when to go, and which cuts hold up well.

The buzzing clippers, the big chair, and the cape can overwhelm a small child. A little preparation helps.
Before you go
- Play barber at home. Put a towel around his neck and comb his hair in the bathroom mirror.
- Get him used to the sound. Run an electric toothbrush or razor near him so the buzz isn’t new.
- Show him pictures. Let him pick a style he likes.
Timing
- Go after a nap and a snack. A rested, fed toddler is much easier. Avoid lunchtime and bedtime.
- Pack a spare shirt. Clippings get past the cape.
- Bring a toy or a show on your phone. It keeps his head still.
Cuts that hold up
- Classic taper. Finger-length on top, shorter around the ears and neck. Easy to comb with a little water.
- Low skin fade with a textured top. The sides stay neat and cool through sports.
- Buzz cut with a line-up. Almost no upkeep.
- Designs. Custom parts, slashes, and lightning bolts are $10 and kids like them.
In the chair
Our barbers take their time with kids and can show the clippers on their own hand first. If your child is nervous, you can hold him on your lap during the cut.
Haircuts are $25 for kids and adults. Walk-ins only, no appointment.
